That Was My Child!

Today was a busy day. It started off with our annual trip to the pulmonologist. Each year we visit to make sure Lucas' asthma is under control and if we need to update the action plan. Luckily this year Lucas has done well with his asthma and we have only had to use the inhaler when he gets a cold which has only been a few times. YAY! When we told the doctor this, she said that he might be starting to outgrow it. This makes us very happy. Then she checked out his eczema which flares up during the summer season with all of the heat and swimming. As long as we keep it under control we don't need to use a prescription medication for it. Also, good news.

Then I told her about this CRAZY rash that Lucas had a few weeks ago. I am not sure where it came from, but it was awful looking. He got it one day while we were at a daytime football game and I thought maybe it was just because he was hot. I gave him lots of water and it went away which made me think heat rash. Unfortunately, it came back the next day. But just on one side of his body and just on his arm and leg. We decided to take him to the Minu.te Clinic. She said it was an allergic reaction of some sort and to give him some allergy medicine. I couldn't for the life of me figure what he had the allergic reaction to. After a couple of days of the rash appearing and disappearing, I called his pediatrician. She said to keep giving him the allergy medicine and if it didn't go away in the next few days to bring him in. Luckily after a week it was gone. I just wanted to get one more opinion from an expert and she agreed that it was an allergic reaction to something. Most likely a bug bite or a chemical that he was exposed to. Who knows... But I feel a lot better knowing that she thought it was an allergic reaction as well. Hopefully we won't see it again.

Here is a picture of the nasty rash!
So gross!
Lucas was a good boy through the whole visit. He stood nicely on the scale, stood nice and tall to get his height measured, let the pulse ox meter stay on his finger so we could get a good reading, was so cooperative for the doctor and only cried for about 20 seconds after he got his flu shot. So we decided why not take this good almost 2-year old to Chu.ck E Cheese! Crazy!

The adventure started out so nicely. We went in ordered our pizza and Lucas watched the band play. He was so excited about it. Then... We got tokens and let him play some games. Well... He only wanted to play ONE game. I bet you can't guess which game!

That's right, basketball. Surprise... Surprise. He played this game over and over. Even when we tried to get him to play a different game. We even tried air hockey, which he did for about one minute before he took off right back to the basketball game. We should have known. He is addicted.

Then the rest of the visit went down hill from there. Our lunch came and it was time to eat. Unfortunately, Lucas was not done playing and wanted nothing to do with eating. He threw the BIGGEST TANTRUM ever! He was crying at the top of his lungs, pushing his food away and trying to escape from the highchair. So the good parents that we are, we boxed up the pizza, scooped up the child and left the building. Good times! So we have made a little note... we will not try this again or any other place of adventure for a little while. At least until the terrible 2's are past us. He is such a fiery little red head!
