Boys vs. Girls: The Johnson Family: Happy 2nd Birthday, Lucas!

It is hard to believe that our Little Man is now 2 years old! How time flies! I can recall every moment of the day he was born... From getting up, driving to the hospital, Matt saying on the way, "Are you sure you want to do this today?", checking in, seeing him on an ultrasound one last time before he was born, every contraction, the support Matt provided through each one (he was truly wonderful), the nurses that were there, seeing on the t.v. right before he was born the words "Lucas Oil" written on a baseball stadium wall, and then seeing my little boy with all of his red hair! So funny how I can remember every detail of that day and only think of how truly wonderful he has made our lives! We are truly blessed!

So to think that he is two today, makes me a little sad. I don't remember saying that he could grow up... I remember when he was so tiny and cuddly. Now he is such a big kid and running all over the place... Searching for trouble to get into!

But as a good mom does... We let our little babies grow up and celebrate! We had a nice small birthday for Lucas. Just family. Both sets of grandparents, Aunt Lori, Uncle David and Cousin Morgan. Just the right size for a two-year old... Especially when it came time to open presents which I will get into later.

I made one just like it last year.

It is a tradition that I will keep until Lucas requests differently!

Every little boy deserves a Birthday Doughnut on his birthday! Luckily, Grandpa Fildes has made this a tradition with his grandchildren. Of course, Lucas got a chocolate doughnut with sprinkles and ate the whole thing! It didn't hurt that I got a Starbucks out of the deal, too! Yay for Grandpas!

After a little playing in the morning and a nap in the afternoon, we were ready to party! It is a must for a little boy to get a nap in so that he can enjoy the fun!

My former parapro now owns her own bakery and made his cake.

She made his Cookie Monster cake last year, too!

We had a T.oy Story theme because Lucas watches the movie about 3-5 times a day!

She is so talented.

What does a 2-year old want to eat for his birthday? Macaroni and cheese. It is his favorite meal so why not make it for him on his special day. Luckily my mom was here and she is an expert macaroni and cheese maker. We made a fancy dish versus the box stuff and boy did he eat every... single... bite!

The best part of the balloon was to pretend to hit Daddy in the face with it!

So now we are on to the opening of presents which I mentioned earlier. It was nice to have just have family because as most of you know... The attention span of a toddler can be quite quick. Now add in new toys to play with and it is even quicker. He was really excited about opening his first gift from Uncle David, Aunt Lori and Cousin Morgan! He tore the paper right off. BUT... As soon as he saw what it was (a Mag.na Doodle), he wanted to play with it right then. Who wouldn't? Luckily, we convinced him to give it to Grandpa so that he could take it out of the box and get it ready for him to play with. Distraction technique number 1.

Then we were on to opening the next few presents. Again after opening each one, Lucas wanted to play with it right then. Again, can you blame him? After about 3 toys and giving them to Grandpa to take out of the box, he had lost interest in opening presents and just wanted to play. He even went in the other room for a minute to play with his blocks, but we brought him back in! So silly! It only took about 30 minutes to open 10 presents.

Then he opened up the present that we got him.

When we went to pick it out, Matt said that he just thought about what he would love to play and we bought him a tee-ball set.

It was a hit! Litterally!

Will his fingers go to grab the candle or will he blow out the candle?

By the way he thought it was so funny that we sang to him.

And guess what...

He did try to grab it, but then we reminded him that it was hot and he had to blow out the candle. Once he blew it out, we had to do it all over again! He was so proud of himself and clapped after every time he blew out the candle!
