Today was Lucas' last day of preschool. Where did that school year go? I couldn't be more proud of my little boy. He knew a lot going in to preschool: letters, numbers, colors, shapes and some sight words. But he has learned so much more. Mostly he has learned to be a good friend to all of the other children in his class. His teacher told me that he stands at the door each morning and greets each child as they come in. This was the reason we wanted Lucas to be in school, to learn how to play and share with others. The social piece is the most important piece of school, especially at his age.
One of the other things that has made this school year memorable for Lucas is he found his best friend at school. Every day they race each other to school. It is always a daily report to see if Christian won or if Lucas won. No matter who gets to school first, neither one will get out of the car until the other one gets there. Silly! Then they walk (run) in to class together. They really get along well and truly have a special friendship. At the end of the school day, neither one will leave the class until the other one's parent shows up. Then they walk (run) out of the class together. If one of the parents' is running late, the other will wait with the other one. Seriously how cute is that? Best buddies.
Lucas has also got his first crush (a preschool crush). There is a little girl, Taliyah, who will gives Lucas a hug every day before they go home. She has even given him a little kiss, on the cheek, to which Lucas gets a sneaky smile when you ask him about it. He has also returned the favor of the kiss. What am I in for when he is high school? Save me!
Anyway, it has been a wonderful school year. We are very appreciative for what Lucas has learned this year. It always nice to know that he is being cared for and loved every day when he isn't with us!
