Mom of the Year!

You all know that letter that goes home with the students when there is strep throat, lice, etc. We call it the red letter. Well... A letter was emailed home to all of the students in Lucas' class.

Yesterday we got a phone call from the Pima County Health Department saying that some of Lucas' blood work came back a little funky. They said that his blood showed that he had a bacteria in his blood. Even though he had the shot to protect against the bacteria, it doesn't protect against this strand. We will never know how he got it, but the symptoms that are listed are the exact symptoms that Lucas had (except the vomiting) on Thursday and is what put us in the ER.

Even though when we sent him to school on Monday, with permission from the doctor saying it was okay for him to go, the letter still went out. Lucas was on antibiotic for over 36 hours before we sent him as well and he has been on it every day since last Friday. After we got the call, I called his pediatrician to clarify that it was alright for him to attend school and she said it was since he has been on the antibiotics and wasn't running a fever.

But then you get this email from school with this letter attached and you feel like a failure! Mom of the year! Yep! As soon as the email was sent out, I immediately called his teacher and let her know that I spoked with his pediatrician and she said it was alright for Lucas to go to school. His teacher said it was fine, but they are required to send it out. So then we were debating do we send him to school on his last day or keep him home. Since we had the okay from the pediatrician and Lucas would be so bummed to miss school, we decided to take him. Poor Matt was the one who took him this morning, but no one even cared. So if there is an award or medal that you could send our way, we would gladly take it!
