We are now in Week 22! According to the website the baby is the size of a papaya. The baby is about 11 inches long and weighs about 1 pound. The lips, eyelids and eyebrows are becoming more distinct. According to the websites, the baby finds music and my voice the most soothing. This must be true because the baby LOVES my i-pod music. Matt would totally disagree, but I do have the best music. Also, the "Little One" is starting to settle into sleep cycles; sleeping about 12-14 hours a day. I think the baby likes to sleep when I am awake, and is awake when I want to sleep! We can definitely feel the baby move at night when we settle down in the evening.
Today we had our mid-point ultrasound! My parents, sister Shawna and Matt's mom were in attendance for the big show! They really tried their best to see if they could find out the gender of the baby, but failed. Dr. Weisert is just too fast for them. There were times when they "think" they caught a glimpse, but... Matt is convinced he saw that it is a boy. My mom is convinced she saw that it is boy as well. When pressured to tell how they know, they both admit they can't tell for sure. Who knows! I guess we will have to wait until October to find out for sure. The one thing we did learn is that everything is really healthy looking. We all looked at the heart, brain, spine, feet, femur, and humorous. The doctor was really pleased with how everything looked and measured. Also, we got great pictures of the feet and the doctor said the baby had big feet with long toes. That means the baby has Matt's feet. BUT... the "Little One" is a little stubborn. Not sure where that would come from. The baby was laying face down which made it a little hard to see the heart fully to make sure the valves didn't cross. The doctor didn't think that they did, but wants to make sure. Dr. Weisert kept trying to make the baby move positions, but it would move but too quickly to catch any image. At which point, Matt said, "That means the baby is athletic." So in 6 weeks we go back to get another ultrasound to check. This is fine with me because then we get to see the baby again and get more pictures!!! Matt and I keep teasing that we are going to find out the gender at that appointment and keep it a secret until the birth! We will just have to see. Here are some pictures of our little gem!
Here we ALL are waiting in the ultrasound room! My mom is taking the picture.
Here is the side profile of the baby! You can see the baby's head and belly. Also, if you look close you can see the spine and the feet are right by the head!
Here is a picture of the face. You can see the cute little nose! Also, you can see the legs.
Here is the back of the baby! You can see the 2 hemispheres of the brain and the spine. Also, you can see it's little elbow cuddled up by the face. This is the STUBBORN position!
