This year's 4th of July was a little different than in the past. It has been years since we have been in AZ for the 4th. Usually we are in Colorado to celebrate the holiday or in South Carolina. But this year, we stayed in AZ. We thought about going to a resort to watch the fireworks and spending a little family time as a "Staycation." It just didn't work out and wasn't really practical to take our little ones to a hotel for just 2 days instead, we decided to hang out and enjoy a relaxing 4th.
We did try, note the word try, to watch fireworks on July 1st. We went to dinner at Matt's parents' house in Rancho Sahuarita and then headed to a park where Lucas could run around and play until it got dark. Lucas had a blast with one of Grandma and Grandpa's neighbor boy who is 2. They played football and ran around for a long time. But unfortunately the casino wasn't able to set off the fireworks because of the weather. It was VERY windy so we had to forgo the watching fireworks.

Since fireworks didn't really pan out and going somewhere to watch the fireworks on the 4th didn't seem very practical since we didn't know how the weather was going to be. It had been raining all day on the 4th. We decided to just hang out at home.

One of the Fildes Family traditions is to make friend chicken. Usually my mom makes it and it is DELICIOUS! So I made an attempt to replicate. It actually turned out delicious! Not as good as hers, but close.

That evening, after Macie was sound asleep in her swing, we took Lucas outside to set off some fireworks. This is one of my favorite things to do. Growing up in Colorado, my dad would take us to buy fireworks every year and we would set them off in the driveway. So I wanted to continue the tradition with my children. Lucas had a blast watching the fireworks! He thought they were so cool.

Happy 4th from our family to yours!
