Our Little Trooper

This week has been a little crazy. It all started Friday with Lucas' four month check up. Lucas was doing a little tummy time and the doctor noted that he was a little wheezy. Matt and I noticed this as well, but we thought it was just because he was working hard. The doctor didn't seem too concerned, but told us to keep an eye on it. Over the weekend Lucas was doing well and didn't seem to be too wheezy so we trucked right along.

Monday he seemed to be a little more wheezy and Tuesday was the worst. He started to cough and was wheezy while resting. I contacted out doctor, but they didn't have any appointments and told us to go to urgent care. We packed up the little man and were on our way. The doctor there listened to his chest and said that is was a bronchial virus and prescribed us prednisone to open up his airways to make a little easier. By the way, the prednisone smells awful and I can only imagine what it would taste like. Poor baby!

Well his wheezing and coughing wasn't getting any better. So my parents called me at worked and I made an appointment with Lucas' pediatrician. Yay for Cottonwood Pediatrics. They are the best. They took his pulse ox... which was 96. This is good. Anything below 95 is scary. She gave him a nebulizer breathing treatment and took chest x-rays. His x-rays came back clear and the breathing treatment helped a lot. So... the diagnosis... a mild case of RSV (respiratory syncytial virus). This can be scary in a infant, but because we caught it so early everything should be okay. The doctor sent us home with a nebulizer and we are to give him 3 treatments a day. He doesn't care too much for it, but is getting used to it and is feeling a lot better.

Here are some pictures of Lucas having a breathing treatment at home. I am so proud of him.

Lucas doesn't like the mask to be wrapped around his face, so this is a two person job.
One to hold him and one to hold the mask in front of him while trying to keep his hands from whacking at the mask.
Lucas doesn't care too much for the treatment, but did a great job of staying still.
What a big boy!
Such a trooper!
