Halloween was quite the adventure this year. It all started with the creating of the Halloween costume for Macie. We knew Lucas wanted to be one of the characters from the movie Monsters Inc., eather it be Sully or Mike. Unfortunately all of the Mike costumes were sold out when we went to get one in his size, but they had the cutest Sully costume and it fit him perfectly. He was so excited about it. Although he was really hoping that he would be Mike, Matt would be Sully, Macie would be Boo and Husker would be Randall. The plans that he creates. Too funny!
Since we were able to secure the Sully costume, we just needed to make the partner in crimes costume. Yes, we had to make a Boo costume. They are not sold anywhere unless you look on E.bay, then you can find one for sale around $100. So off to a fabric store I went with some internet assistance as to what materials to buy. After reading and rereading the directions that I found on the internet, I was able to cut out the design, but needed a little bit of assistance with the sewing... I don't own a sewing machine. Luckily, my mother-in-law does and she was able to stitch together the main portion of the costume. The trickiest part was the hood. It was hard to find something to make the hood light, but durable. Again, my mother-in-law found the perfect outline, angel wings from the dollar store. Just by bending them a little bit, I was able to stitch on the material and the teeth and voila, a hood for Boo. It turned out pretty darn cute, if I do say so myself.

I am so happy I was able to have complimenting costumes for Lucas and Macie to wear. I think it might be one of the only times they will let me dress them up together. It also might be the last time I try to make a costume. But we will see next year.
To go with the festivities of Halloween, there were plenty of times that Lucas and Macie got to wear their costumes. We definitely got our moneys worth. Lucas had a Fall Festival at his preschool, then we took the kids to Boo at the Zoo, Lucas went trick-or-treating at my District Office during preschool, and then we had the regular Halloween trick-or-treating this year. We also made a quick trip to the pumpkin patch to pick out our pumpkins for carving.

We had a great time at Lucas' Fall Festival. There were tons of games to play: toilet paper bowling, a cake walk, bob the donut off the string, and many more. Lucas had so much fun showing off his school, hanging out with his friends and winning tons of treats from playing the games. We went home with a lot of sticky hands and stickers.

Of course, we had a really great time at the pumpkin patch. The kids loved riding on the tractor out to the pumpkin patch. They were very meticulous about picking out their pumpkins. But I think they best part was the kettle corn! So delicious!

Macie wasn't too sure about playing in the corn pit! She last about 1 minute before trying to escape! |

Lucas on the other hand, loved the corn pit! He played tackle with Matt for along time while we waited for the tractor ride. |

The night of Halloween was so much fun. This year, Lucas totally understood the purpose of going door to door to get candy. Last year, we were able to go to a house get some candy, skip quite a few houses, go to another house and get some candy. I think we went to maybe 10 houses last year. This year was a totally different story. We started going to a house, skipping a few and then going to another house. But once he realized that if they had their outside lights on, it meant that they were giving out candy. So he made sure to make it to each house that had a light on. Macie, who is not one to miss out on candy, tagged right along. She loves her chocolate or as she calls it, "Chocolate face!" That is because every time she eats chocolate, it gets all over her face.
Of course, it was even more fun because Lucas and Macie went trick-or-treating with Morgan and Kenzie. They always have such a great time together. Lucas and Morgan would take off with Matt and David hunting down the houses with lights on to collect their candy. Macie and Kenzie would trail behind with each other. They would walk a little bit, wait, run, walk, wait. Want to be carried, run, walk, wait. Every once in awhile we would say, "On your marks, get set..." and then they would shout, "GO!" and start to take off running. They had a really great time together.
